Happiness resides not in possessions and not in gold; happiness dwells in the soul.

The kind of lifestyle we are living today and how the world has transformed in the last couple of decades; the definition of happiness is often misinterpreted in today’s world. The human race has become more materialistic today than ever before. We often find happiness in material gains, and the scale of measure is often the number of things you possess and the wealth you have. What we don’t understand is that happiness is often momentarily, and while it is the part of your overall happiness, it is not the synonym of happiness.

We have often heard people say since the ancient times that money cannot buy happiness, and it stands valid till date. Money cannot buy everything, and it certainly cannot buy love, mental peace, respect, and gratitude. We have often seen wealthy people in a deep mess while a homeless person doesn’t think twice before sharing the only bread he has with a stray dog, with a smile on his face. With that said, it doesn’t mean that one shouldn’t try to be successful or be wealthy; it just means that do understand there is a thin line between materialistic happiness and the real happiness that dwells in our soul.

Don’t search for happiness outside

Inner happiness comes from love and peace of mind. The enemy of peace of mind is constantly worrying and stressing out. We often stress ourselves out for little reasons that don’t hold as much importance as we attribute to it. When you become too materialistic and attach your happiness to things instead of life as a whole is when you start to lose peace of mind. More materialistic you become, more things you start to possess, and more are you worried about losing it. It is a vicious cycle that traps you, and before you know it, you get so involved in it deeply that it almost seems irreversible. The key is to learn to let go of materialistic attachments.

Detach yourself

I am not saying that you must not own finer things in life that are available today but do not make it the center of your life. When you attach your happiness with any prized possession, you give it the control of your life and happiness. You invest in stock with the hopes of gain, and it falls, and you lose your peace of mind and happiness. You buy a car, and it gets a dent, and you lose your happiness.

You buy a new phone, and after a while, its screen breaks and you lose your peace of mind. While it is natural to be disappointed, don’t let that disappointment get into the driving seat of your life. Take control of your emotions, pull up yourself, and make the necessary changes from the mistakes you make.

Count your blessings and be grateful

People have become so materialistic these days that in an attempt to reach their goals in life, they’ve forgotten to enjoy the journey. You are a waiter today and dream of opening a restaurant one day. It would take anywhere between 2 to 10 years, depending on your ability and the resources you have. It is natural to focus on your goal and work on it honestly, but it is also important to enjoy the journey passionately.

Do not dwell on the problems you’re facing or the setbacks that pushes you back. Be happy and grateful for what you are today, and count your blessings. There are people who are having worse than you, ever think about it? It’s nothing to be happy or proud about, but things could’ve been worse. Appreciate and respect your place in life while working your way up gracefully. It is what calms your soul and attracts positivity happiness.

People are distancing themselves from reality today faster than ever before. It is because of the blanket of materialism that has covered humanity in today’s date. The best way to regain control of your senses and connect with your soul is to meditate. It would help you pause and focus on your breathing, which would help you realize and identify your true self. It is important to realize what true happiness is. Meditation helps you look beyond the false reality you’ve created for yourself to identify the true meaning of happiness. Integrate meditation in your daily routine, and you’ll be able to smile and problems and think with more clarity than ever before.

It would change your perspective and mend your attitude to help you approach life the way it is meant to be. You’ll start looking for answers within you and not outside. And, it is when you start finding answers inside of you is when you’ll find true happiness. Give more, and expect less, and don’t underestimate the importance of gratitude in life. These are the few facts of life that meditation will teach you as progressively. Trust the process, and you won’t have to look for happiness anymore, it will find you.
