Goals are Dreams with Deadlines

goal

Having a goal is of paramount importance because it helps brings clarity and focus in life. Without a set goal, you will remain confused, and it can get challenging to concentrate or distribute your energy at the right place. In other words, goals are dreams that you watch with open eyes. Goals come with deadlines, and it is the best thing about it as it keeps you on your toes. When you are focused on your goals, it ensures that no distraction sways you away from doing what is essential and integral to achieving your goals.

Why are Goals Important in Life?

Goals ensure that you do not get distracted easily in life and remain focused on what’s important. In the age of social media and the internet, one can easily get derailed from the path of progress. Goals would not let you sleep at night and ensure that you have a purpose in life that makes you jump out of your bed each morning. Having a goal becomes the driving factor that allows you to achieve the impossible. When you are focused on your goals, it becomes easier to stay motivated, driven, and focused. Overcoming challenges that life throws at you become more comfortable when you have set your sight on one goal.

Build a Strategy

If you dream of owning a big house, having a goal would help you realize that dream. In a way, a dream is a final destination, and the goal paves the way to reach the destination. To achieve the long-term goals, you need to have short-term goals that look more understandable, attainable, and possible. It becomes challenging to stay motivated and inspired when you aim to become a millionaire while you just have enough in your bank to cover you for a week. The dream would look unattainable and impractical from such a point of view.

However, when you say to yourself that you need first to save money to start a business, it all starts to make sense. Break your journey to achieving your long-term goals into short term goals. It would make your goal seem manageable, and it would also simplify life by not stressing you out.

goals and deadlines

Importance of Deadline

It is rightly said that goals are dreams with deadlines because it is the timeline that separates dreams from goals. Your dream of being successful sounds rhetorical, but you set a goal of opening a restaurant by the age of 30, and opening a chain of restaurants by 35 sounds practical. When you attach a deadline to a goal, you hold yourself accountable for every minute of your life. It becomes your sole purpose to make each minute and day count to get closer to your goal.

Accountability

It is this accountability that would force you out of bed every single morning as you wake up and help you find ways to become more productive. The road to achieving your goal isn’t going to be easy, and many times, you’ll fall and tumble. However, when you are focused on your goal and know that time is running out, you focus on solutions and ways to achieve your goal rather than engage in the blame game or focus on problems.

It is essential to have a goal because unless you have a goal, you won’t have a strategy. When you have a plan, it easier to find and follow a purpose in life. You may or may not achieve what you set out to accomplish within the deadline you set for yourself. Do know that it is entirely normal as rarely anything in life goes as planned. While having a deadline is essential for the goals, do not be stuck to it or be too rigid about it. Just because you didn’t achieve your goal within the deadline doesn’t mean you failed. Life always has plans for us that we didn’t know about, and one must accept this reality with gratitude.
